Salima Rawji is an accomplished city builder with a passion for purpose-driven solutions. As the Senior Vice-President of Development at CreateTO, Salima has helped lead the City of Toronto’s Housing Now Initiative, which leverages City-owned lands to build affordable housing and mixed-income neighbourhoods. Her strategic approach to real estate development encourages us to think objectively about our built environments and how these spaces impact the human experience.
For Salima, real estate innovation is about understanding the needs and desires of people and responding collectively as an industry. She believes that we all have a role to play in building better communities and improving people’s lives. As an advocate for public and private partnerships, Salima works closely with several local and national organizations to effectively design and implement community-focused initiatives.
Salima’s passion for community extends well-beyond her role at CreateTO. Throughout her career, she has served on several boards committed to human-centred experiences including the Ryerson University Real Estate Management Advisory Council, the Urban Land Institute’s Toronto District Management Committee, the Urban Land Institute’s Women’s Leadership Initiative, and the Homes First Foundation. Today, Salima serves as a Director for CivicAction and the Toronto Foundation where she helps organizations engage in social initiatives that make communities more equitable, inclusive, and accessible.
