Residential Construction Council of Ontario (RESCON) Joins R-LABS’ Industry Issue + Transformation Council: Advancing Industry Innovation in Real Estate and Housing

R-LABS is pleased to announce our partnership with Residential Construction Council of Ontario (RESCON) and welcomes Richard Lyall to the R-LABS Industry Issue + Transformation (I+T) Council. The I+T Council stands at the forefront of real estate innovation, comprised of an industry-leading group that includes the CMHCBILDREALPACTRREBInfrastructure Ontario  and other esteemed organizations dedicated to delivering much-needed innovation to the real estate industry. Last week, the I+T Council launched the 2024 Industry Innovation Agenda, which identifies the most pressing challenges facing Canada’s real estate sector and the underlying bottlenecks stifling innovative solutions. Among the top priorities in the IIA are housing affordability, housing supply, and climate resiliency.

RESCON is the province’s leading association of residential builders committed to providing leadership and fostering innovation in the industry. RESCON members build the communities and homes of the future. 

As the Real Estate Industry Venture Builder, R-LABS is a partnership of innovative corporations and institutions, including Oxford PropertiesTeranetDorsay DevelopmentsEmpire Communities, and Co-operators, along with game-changing entrepreneurs that are delivering industry innovation through the creation of new technology-enabled companies, each solving a very specific problem in real estate and housing, that are piloted locally and can be scaled globally. Through R-LABS and the I+T Council, the partnership effectively aligns and actively engages key industry stakeholders across the real estate and housing sub-sectors to drive awareness and participation in industry innovation, addressing the critical challenges facing the region.

Appointed as the representative from RESCON to join R-LABS’ I+T Council is Richard Lyall. Richard is president of RESCON and has represented the residential construction industry in Ontario since 1991. He is regularly called on to speak at industry events and is often quoted in the media about issues affecting the residential construction industry. He writes columns on residential construction and development issues for The Toronto Sun, Canadian Real Estate Wealth, Storeys, Daily Commercial News, Canadian Contractor, Canadian Construction Business, On-Site and Builder Bites. His thoughtful articles on matters affecting the industry have also been published in ReNew Canada and Rock to Road. He was honoured with the 2019 Canadian Lifetime Volunteer Award from the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans (IFEBP) for his contributions to enriching the organization’s educational efforts and was appointed to a steering committee of the Chicago-based Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat. He is also on the Ontario Housing Supply Action Plan Implementation Team.
