At the same time, the electricity grid is under mounting strain. Rising electrification, growing electric vehicle adoption, and expanding data centre demand are expected to push peak electricity demand up more than 12 percent by 2030. Traditional solutions, such as building new substations and transmission lines, take years to plan, permit, and construct, creating lengthy delays for new home developments waiting on grid connections. These delays add cost and risk for builders at precisely the moment affordability pressures are most acute.

Calyx Home Energy turns entire residential communities into responsive grid assets, tackling two of North America’s most pressing challenges, housing affordability and energy grid capacity, with a single integrated model.
Calyx works directly with homebuilders to deploy a turnkey bundle of clean energy technology, including solar power, battery storage, high-efficiency heat pumps, and EV charging, into new home developments at no capital cost to the builder. By shifting standard heating and hot water infrastructure into this bundle, Calyx helps builders lower home prices for buyers while accelerating the grid connection approvals that often delay new developments by a year or more.
For homebuyers, this means access to premium, modern energy infrastructure as a standard feature of their new home, delivered through an affordable monthly arrangement rather than a large upfront cost, with the flexibility to move toward full ownership over time. For utilities and grid operators, Calyx aggregates these residential systems into a Virtual Power Plant, a network of distributed energy resources that can be dispatched to support the grid during periods of peak demand. This gives utilities a faster, more flexible alternative to building costly new substations and transmission infrastructure, while strengthening grid reliability across the communities they serve.
