Problem Overview
Construction is fragmented, and the information systems do not move with the materials. Billions of dollars of building material are lost because no one tracks them. Two streams of already-paid-for material end up in the same place: brand-new product that is over-ordered, rejected at QA or left over from change orders and never leaves the pallet, and material in existing buildings with years of service life left that is demolished, downcycled or landfilled when it could be reused as is.
The industry does not lack materials or capable organizations. It lacks the coordination infrastructure that lets them work together. No individual contractor, manufacturer or owner can justify building that infrastructure alone, so owners have no reliable way to identify, trust, specify and move the material they already own, and no procurement-grade record for diversion, embodied carbon and salvage value.
Solution Overview
Matlas is the Construction Materials Operating System, the independent coordination infrastructure connecting material supply and project demand across the built environment. When a project needs a material, Matlas determines whether a suitable material already exists in the connected construction ecosystem, and helps the project get it.
The system works in three parts. Green Salvaged Materials implements material workflows on real projects. The ReUse Collective sets the trusted standards, Division 01 procurement language and assessment protocols. Matlas turns both into repeatable digital infrastructure:
- Find: pre-demolition inventories, contractor surplus, manufacturer excess and “looking for” requests
- Trust: provenance, engineering verification, digital material passports, and AI-driven specification matching
- Move: brokerage and bidding, transactions and escrow, logistics, and diversion and carbon reporting
